RECTOR of the Jagiellonian University announces a competitive selection process for a post of a UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR in the research and faculty staff member group of the Faculty of Philology in the field of Digital Humanities.

 

The competitive selection process is open for all individuals who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July

2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian

University:

 

1) holding at least a doctoral degree;

2) having significant and creative achievements in scientific, professional or artistic work in the form of, amongst others, publications in years 2014-2021 in reputable journals and presentations at reputable conferences dedicated to digital humanities;

3) having experience in project management;

4) having achievements in organisational work;

5) having achievements in teaching work.

 

Additionally:

 

-- in the 2 years before the opening date of the competitive selection process they were not employed under an employment contract at the Jagiellonian University.

 

An ideal candidate should:

 

-- have a track record of scientific research in digital humanities, at the interface of humanities (especially philology) and computer science, necessary for the scientific work on, amongst others, digital editions (including the conceptualisation and creation of a digital scholarly editing platform at the Jagiellonian University); these skills and methodological competences are to contribute to the development of the digital infrastructure and the dynamic growth of digital humanities at the oldest Polish university;

-- have the ability to lead a research team and initiate scientific projects dedicated to the digitalisation and virtual sharing of cultural heritage, and to advance scholarly reflection on interdisciplinary research methods and techniques (e.g. on the evolution of digital language standards, software or designed multimedia digital environments);

-- actively take part in academic life, in particular by presenting their research at international conferences and symposia,

-- have a track record of interdisciplinary scientific research or cooperation with socio-economic environment,

-- have organisational experience, in particular a track record of participating in or obtaining external, competitive research funding,

-- participate in an ongoing international academic collaboration with leading research institutions,

-- have experience in popularising their research or innovative education,

-- have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

 

The post holder (subject to evaluation after 24 months) is required to:

 

-- initiate research combining broadly understood philology and computational studies, which includes designing and setting up, in collaboration with a research team, a digital platform for scholarly editing in the area of humanities; ultimately expansion of infrastructure and constantly developing digital humanities at JU,

-- publish articles in which JU is the only Polish affiliation in leading, high impact factor journals; present their research at international conferences of digital humanities,

-- popularise knowledge by organizing lectures, workshops and summer schools of digital humanities,

-- submit external Polish or international grant proposals affiliated at JU within 24 months,

-- engage in interdisciplinary research with other members of the JU academic community

-- deliver innovative teaching in digital humanities ( teaching load is negotiable in accordance to Work Regulations of the Jagiellonian University).

 

Jagiellonian University offers a full-time salary comprising base remuneration and pay enhancement granted for 5 years. Moreover, a successful candidate is awarded a research grant of 400 000 PLN for the duration of 5 years and provided with an opportunity to employ two postdoctoral research assistants for the duration of the grant. Two other competitive selection processes have been announced at the JU for the position of Assistant Professor in digital humanities. After 5 years, upon positive evaluation, permanent employment as a University Professor, according to Work Regulations of the JU.

for a post of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the research staff member group of the

Faculty of Philology in academic discipline: Computer Science or Linguistics or

Literary Studies in the field of Digital Humanities.

 

The competitive selection process is open for all individuals who meet the

requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 –

Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility

criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:

 

1) holding at least a doctoral degree;

2) having relevant scientific achievements in 2014-2021 in the form of books

and/or publications in reputable journals or reputable conferences dedicated to

advanced computing methods or artificial intelligence or digital humanities or

natural language processing;

3) taking active part in scientific life, in particular by presenting their

research at international conferences and symposia.

 

Additionally:

 

-- in the 2 years before the opening date of the competitive selection process

they were not employed under an employment contract at the Jagiellonian University.

 

An ideal candidate should:

 

-- have a track record of interdisciplinary scientific research between

computational studies, natural language processing and/or linguistics and/or

literary studies;

-- having relevant experience in applying computational and/or statistical

methods to natural language processing and/or cultural/literary studies;

-- having a good knowledge of R and/or Python ad/or Java;

-- have organisational experience, in particular a track record of participating

in or obtaining external, competitive research funding,

-- have experience in international academic collaboration with leading research

institutions,

-- have the ability to work in a research team,

-- have experience in popularising their research or in innovative education, -

have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

 

The post holder is required to:

 

-- provide expertise and collaborate on digital humanities projects, including

team work on the development of a digital platform for scholarly editions,

-- publish articles in which JU is the only Polish affiliation in leading, high

impact factor journals or at COREranked conferences,

-- submit at least one external Polish or international grant proposal affiliated

at JU within 24 months,

-- engage in interdisciplinary research with other members of the JU academic

community.

-- have organisational experience, in particular a track record of participating

in or obtaining external, competitive research funding,

-- have experience in international academic collaboration with leading research

institutions,

-- have the ability to actively collaborate with other research team members, -

have experience in popularising their research and/or innovative education,

-- have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

-- collaborate with the research team on developing a digital platform for

editions in the area of humanities and expanding the digital humanities

infrastructure at the Jagiellonian University, in cooperation with the

Jagiellonian Library,

of digital humanities,

-- submit at least one external Polish or international grant proposal affiliated
