Digital Scholarship fellow at Leiden University

The fellowship program for Digital Scholarship at Leiden enables researchers to study the vast digital collections at Leiden University Libraries and to collaborate with the innovative Centre for Digital Scholarship (CDS) at Leiden University. Sponsored by Elsevier, these fellowships form an extension to the longstanding Scaliger Institute fellowship program, which aims to promote academic research into the special collections at Leiden University. The fellowship program for Digital Scholarship aims to support the work of researchers who actively make use of digital technologies and will ideally produce convincing examples of the ways in which data science technologies and digital humanities methods can enhance and enrich the more traditional forms of research.

The program includes financial support for a stay in Leiden during a period of two months. During their stay, fellows will be invited to share their research outcomes through public lectures and publications.

Projects should apply digital technologies such as text and data mining, data visualization, GIS or the semantic web. The outcomes of the research should also be made reproducible, in agreement with the FAIR data management principles. The research ideally involves one of the following activities:

-- Research on the basis of manuscripts dispersed across different locations and which can be reassembled using, for instance, IIIF;

-- The enrichment of the digital collections of the UBL by means of annotations, transcriptions and transliterations;

-- Use of the digital collections in research and education through the development of dynamic learning routes;

-- Enriching the digital collections by means of semantic enrichments;

-- Text & data mining based on the text collections of the UBL;

-- Evaluation and correction of textual files with low orthographic quality resulting from difficulties with OCR;

-- The possibilities of text & data mining for non-Western languages
