The Faculty of Arts is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy in the Department of Literature for a  

Postdoctoral researcher in the area of Digital Humanities

The researcher will be part of the Antwerp Centre for Digital Humanities and Literary Criticism and contribute to the ERC project “Constructing Age for Young Readers.”

Job description

• You contribute to research in the fields of digital humanities and children’s literature studies.

• You explore whether and how the age of the author influences the construction of age in children’s books, and use both and digital and traditional research methods to answer this question.

• You write scholarly articles and give presentations about digital research on age in children’s literature.

• You co-ordinate some service tasks, both internally at the department and externally (valorization, communication with non-experts).

• You give advice to PhD students and other team members and occasionally contribute to teaching.

Profile and requirements

• You hold (or obtain during the application period) a doctorate degree (PhD) in Digital Humanities or Literary Studies.

• You have demonstrable experience in programming for natural language processing to serve literary research, preferably in a popular scripting language such as Python or R.

• You have experience with TEI-tagging in xml, topic modelling and statistical analyses.

• You are familiar with research on children’s literature.

• Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.

• The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university.

• You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.

• You are fluent in English and in Dutch (speaking and writing).

We offer

• an appointment as a postdoctoral researcher for a period of four years;

• the date of appointment: 1 September 2019;

• a fulltime gross monthly salary ranging from € 4.134,93 - € 6.446,00;
