The School of Design and Creative Technologies (SDCT) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT)

invites applications for a faculty position in the field of Audio Technology, with a start date of August 2019. The position may be filled at the tenure-track level or non-tenure track. We will also consider applications from currently tenured candidates at the Associate Professor rank.

We seek a highly-skilled specialist in the field of advanced computational audio technologies and methodologies. The candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a program in audio technology and music/sound production consistent with the expectations of our Bachelor of Science in Arts and Entertainment Technologies (AET).

This is a full-time position on a nine-month contractual basis. All faculty, tenure-track and non-tenure track, are free to pursue external professional interests during the summer months. The position is open to all levels of applicants. If a hire is made at the tenure track (or tenured) rank, a substantial and active research portfolio is required. If a hire is made in non-tenure track rank, the position will focus primarily on undergraduate-level teaching and professional career development.

The typical teaching load in the AET program for non-tenure track faculty is three, three-credit courses per term.  Teaching loads for tenure-track (or tenured) faculty are typically two courses per semester with the expectation of a significant research effort leading to scholarly publications.

Undergraduate courses may include: psychoacoustics, audio signal processing, audio programming (C++). We are also seeking expertise in all aspects of game audio production including spatialization and immersive sound production technologies. Consideration will be given for any combination of these areas.

Qualifications

The candidate will hold a terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) or an advanced degree in audio engineering (M. Eng. or equivalent) and have a record of university teaching in the general domain of music technology including advanced instruction of computational music and sound processes. We are especially interested in the development of courses and research in the domain of immersive technologies and sound spatialization.

Candidates for the non-tenure track rank will have professional/industrial work experience in a broad range of commercial audio and/or immersive technology applications.

The candidate for the tenure-track rank will have published research in digital audio signal processing and/or more generally in “computer music” especially as it applies to immersive  sound design and the creation of audio software. The candidate will have demonstrable teaching experience in the field of digital audio software development such as the design, creation and coding of audio components.
